Vol. 192 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reorganisation of Meath Dispensary Districts.

39.

asked the Minister for Health if a decision has yet been made concerning the reorganisation of the Ceanannus Mór, Kilskeer and Crossakiel Dispensary Districts, County Meath.

While the health authority's proposals for the reorganisation of these dispensary districts are generally acceptable I consider that they could be improved upon and I have asked the health authority to let me have their views on some suggested alterations to the proposed revision. When I have received and considered these views I will convey my decision in the matter to the health authority as soon as possible.

I have also suggested to the health authority that as an interim measure they might afford relief to the district medical officer of Ceanannus Mór Dispensary District as there are an exceptionally large number of persons eligible for general medical services in this district.

Would the Minister say if it was within the last few days that this suggestion was made to the local health authority as, up to a week ago, they said they knew nothing about the arrangements and were in fact complaining that the matter was with the Department for several years?

It has been with the Department for quite a while but may I say that some time ago I received a deputation of various people, including Deputies, I think, representing that area and they all agreed that it was not a matter that was subject to any easy solution. However, I think we are moving towards that now.
