asked the Minister for Education the number of failures in the Irish language in the Leaving Certificate Examination in every year from the inception of the examination to the present time.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leaving Certificate Examination: Failures in Irish.
The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.
To clarify the information there given it is necessary to point out that the tabular statement concerned does not show the number of candidates who fulfilled the conditions for a pass in the Leaving Certificate Examination apart from the condition of a pass in Irish. The number of such candidates in the years in respect of which such information is available was 231 in 1959, 78 in 1960 and 84 in 1961.
