Vol. 192 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trim Small Dwellings Purchase Scheme.

90.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that Trim Urban Council have prepared a purchase scheme for some of their small dwellings requiring a payment of £375 down or £470 paid over a period of 25 years at 13/- per week; and if in view of the fact that the tenants of most of the houses have already paid much more than the purchase price of these houses in rent he will consider having the price reduced considerably.

The terms of sale of the houses referred to by the Deputy were fixed by the housing authority on the same basis as the sale terms of local authority houses in other urban areas. The annual rental income of the housing authority from the houses to which he refers falls short of the annual charges in respect of repayment of capital, administration and maintenance. This short-fall has been and is being met by annual subventions from central funds and from local rates.

A departure from the normal terms of sale would not therefore be warranted.
