Vol. 193 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Graduated Retirement Pension Scheme.

73.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider introducing legislation to provide a graduated retirement pension scheme which would make provision for earlier retirement according to the nature of the occupation as well as scaling the contributions and benefits in relation to the wages received and the services involved.

As I stated in reply to a question last week on the subject of a lower pensionable age for old age (contributory) pension, the possibility of improving that scheme is always in my mind. All suggestions as to improvements, including the question of a graduated retirement pension, will be duly considered in the light of experience of the existing scheme, which, however, commenced only last year.
