Vol. 193 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of County Galway Lake.

17.

asked the Minister for Finance if a decision has been reached regarding the drainage of the Ross Lake, County Galway; and, if so, if it will be included in the Corrib drainage scheme.

The drainage of Ross Lake presented a problem because it was connected with Lough Corrib by an underground channel. Until the levels of Lough Corrib had been brought under control by works at and above Galway city no plans could be made for Ross Lake. Control has now been established and a special engineering investigation recently completed indicates that drainage of Ross Lake is feasible. Works will be put in hands this year.

Does the Minister know how much it will lower the level of Ross Lake?

I do not.
