Vol. 194 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Skibbereen (Cork) Water Supply.

54.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made in the provision of the water scheme for Skibbereen, County Cork: whether he is aware that severe hardship has been suffered by many people in the town because of the delay and inadequacy of the present water supply; and what is the cause of the delay in completing the new scheme.

A combined scheme to improve the existing Skibbereen urban water supply and to meet the needs of a prospective new industry in the town was approved in principle by my Department in July last. Progress with the scheme has been retarded by the fact that its planning is linked with industrial proposals, which have not yet been finalised. It is hoped that these difficulties will be resolved in the near future.
