Vol. 194 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstructed Houses on Derelict Sites.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a citizen who receives a grant for the clearing of a derelict site is entitled to a reconstruction grant in respect of a house reconstructed later on that site.

A person is not necessarily debarred from receiving a grant for the reconstruction of a house if he has already received a grant under the Derelict Sites Grants Scheme in respect of works undertaken on other parts of the site on which the house is situated. Generally, it is not expected that such a case would arise but if it did it would be considered on the merits.

Can the Minister say if it is correct that the amount given for the derelict site grant is deducted from the subsequent reconstruction grant?

It does not so follow. It may happen; it may be done.

In what circumstances would it follow?

I am afraid that would be much too lengthy a procedure to detail here. All cases are considered on their merits. Not a great many of these cases arise but each case is dealt with on its merits. All the relevant factors must be considered to determine what grants or aggregated grants may be payable.

If I put down a question, will the Minister answer on specific cases?

I should say we can do that.
