Vol. 194 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South West Cork—Forestry Programme.

54.

asked the Minister for Lands the forestry programme under the following heads: (1) acquisition, (2) planting, (3) thinning and (4) cutting for the South West Cork area in the coming year.

The planting programmes so far arranged for the State Forests in south-west Cork for the coming year total 1,300 acres. The extent of thinning and felling operations is subject to variation by reference to silvicultural requirements and general forest management considerations. In the case of land acquisition, my Department does not operate a fixed programme. Lands are taken over according as price negotiations have been successfully concluded and title investigations completed. There is a substantial area on offer for State Forestry purposes in south-west cork and all possible steps will be taken to speed up the intake of land there.
