A Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, I propose to circulate a table with the Official Report giving figures for the years 1959, 1960 and 1961.
As arising out of the coming into operation of the Local Authorities (Education Scholarships) (Amendment) Act, 1961, entirely new schemes of scholarships will operate for 1962, it would not be possible to make, with any degree of accuracy, a projection as to how many scholarships will be awarded in that year. It can, however, be stated that the amount of money available for new scholarships in 1962 will in the case of post-primary scholarships be over 300 per cent, greater than in 1961 and in the case of university scholarships over 200 per cent greater.
