Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Processing of Surplus Milk Supplies.

13.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if in view of the urgent need for diverting surplus milk supplies into manufacturing outlets other than butter any special steps have been taken to attract foreign milk processing firms to this country; if so, whether any enquiries have been received; and whether any concrete proposals have resulted from such enquiries.

In carrying out its function of encouraging and facilitating external capital investment in the establishment of industrial undertakings in Ireland the Industrial Development Authority both directly and through its representatives abroad has made known to foreign industrialists the facilities available in this country for the production of different commodities including dairy products. Three foreign firms have already established branches of their businesses here and a number of enquiries from other interested parties in relation to the manufacture of cheese and milk powder are being followed up.
