Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wexford Disablement Allowance.

1.

asked the Minister for Health the date on which a person (name supplied) applied to the Wexford County Council for a Disabled Persons Maintenance Allowance; and the date on which a decision on her application was conveyed to her.

Information of the kind sought by the Deputy is not available in my Department, but in order to facilitate him in this matter, I asked the Wexford County Council to supply it.

I am informed that the application in question was made on 5th February, 1962, and that a decision was taken on 20th March, to grant an allowance from 1st April. Notification of the decision was conveyed to the applicant by the Assistance Officer on 6th April, when he called to make the first weekly payment.

I suppose it is reasonable to assume that this unfortunate woman would have had to wait another week or two if this question had not been put down and if the Minister had not been good enough to make inquiries from the Wexford County Council?

I should not like to accept that innuendo.

It is about the only good thing the Minister has done and he should take credit for it.
