Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants Legislation.

35.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he proposes to introduce the new Housing Bill; what the position is regarding grants, now that the Housing Acts which were in operation up to 31st March 1962 have expired; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I expect to introduce a new Housing Bill dealing with private grants and loans within the next few weeks. Pending its enactment housing grants will, in accordance with practice, continue to be allocated and paid. The legislative proposals will advert to the fact that the date of completion for work under the present Act is the 1st April, 1962. Everybody concerned may rest assured that his position either as regards the commencement or completion of approved work will be fully safeguarded in the Bill.
