asked the Taoiseach the reason for the discrepancy in (1) the figures for the number of persons employed in manufacturing industry for the year 1961 as given in Table 5 of the Economic Survey by the OECD and Table 16 of the Economic Statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office and issued prior to the Budget 1962, and (2) the figures for persons at work in agriculture for the year 1961 in Table 5 as aforesaid, compared with the figures in Table 7 of the Economic Statistics compiled by the Central Statistics Office and issued prior to the Budget 1962.

The data for 1961 which were supplied to OECD for the preparation of "Economic Surveys by the OECD— Ireland, March 1962" were prepared considerably in advance of those which appear in "Economic Statistics issued prior to the Budget 1962." The estimates in the latter document are based on the latest information available and supersede those prepared earlier.
