Precise figures of the cost of the new Employment Exchange in Achill are not yet available but it is expected that the cost will be in the region of £8,000. It is the practice of my Department in the interests of administrative efficiency to centralise as far as possible all its staff in a particular area in the one building, and for this reason accommodation has also been provided in the new building for the Social Welfare Officer and Local Agent. Including these officers the total number of staff housed in the building is five, and the annual cost of their salaries is £4,250 approximately.
I should also mention that the hearing of appeals and the medical examination of insured persons in the Achill area will be held from time to time, as the necessity arises, in the new premises.
