Vol. 194 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swords (Dublin) Water Supply.

15.

asked the Minister for Local Government what redress have the cottiers and other residents at Commons East and Drynam Road, Swords, County Dublin who, having been denied a water connection to the existing main on the grounds of inadequate supply, are now witnessing the building of a number of private houses to which the county council propose to provide water connections.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of the 14th February last on the subject. Dublin County Council propose to provide a piped water supply for the cottages in question in accordance with a planned programme, the priorities of which are entirely a matter for the council. I understand that pressure in the existing main will be adequate when the Leixlip project is in operation but that, in the meantime, it would not be sufficient to give an adequate supply to the cottages referred to because an extension of about half a mile of pipe line would be involved. Meanwhile a limited number of new dwellings, adjacent to the Malahide Road main, will be permitted to connect with the existing supply.
