Vol. 195 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repairs to Vested Cottages.

70.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether it is possible for a tenant of a vested council cottage to have repairs done to the cottage by the council after the cottage has been vested (a) in addition to any repairs listed by his Department on appeal under section 18 of the Labourers Act, 1936, and (b) if no such appeal has been lodged.

As the law stands at present, county councils are not empowered to carry out repairs to vested cottages except where the statutory condition requiring that the cottage be kept in good repair and sanitary condition is not observed by the tenant purchaser. Such repairs may be effected under Section 25 of the Labourers Act, 1936, and the cost thereof recovered in the same way as arrears of a purchase annuity.
