asked the Minister for Finance if he will give a detailed account of the restoration of burntout drawing rooms in the State apartments which is being carried out by his Department, and which is referred to under Vote 9, Subhead B., No. 3, of the Estimates for the year 1962-63.

The drawing room block of three storeys which was destroyed by accidental fire in 1941, contained on the ground floor, cloakrooms, and circulation, etc., space for use during State functions, on the first floor the State drawing rooms used for State functions and on the second floor offices for Civil Service staffs.
The remains of the block have been demolished and the proposed reconstruction scheme which it is expected will commence in 1963 will provide accommodation on similar lines to that contained in the block before it was destroyed.
