Vol. 195 No. 8

Written Answer. - County Dublin Schools.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in (a) carrying out repairs to the national school at Damastown, Naul, County Dublin (b) providing a new school at Ballyboughal, County Dublin, and (c) providing a new school at Naul; and what is the latest position in each case.

A grant towards the cost of carrying out a scheme of improvements at Damastown National School was sanctioned in January last by my Department. The carrying out of the scheme is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works. It will be necessary for them to have detailed working drawings and specification prepared as a preliminary to the invitation of tenders. Owing to the very heavy volume of work which the Commissioners have in hands, they will not be in a position to undertake the preparation of the working drawings for some months.

The alternative site offered by the Reverend Manager some time ago for the erection of a new national school at Ballyboughal has not yet been examined. It is understood that the Commissioners of Public Works propose to have the site surveyed during the next week.

It is proposed to replace the existing premises at Naul by a new school but no progress can be made until a site acceptable to the Commissioners of Public Works is made available.
