Vol. 195 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payments to Secondary Teachers.

27.

asked the Minister for Education whether the payment made by his Department to secondary teachers during the year's teaching prior to their qualification for an incremental post which was announced by him in the Estimate for his Department last year is a payment strictly for one year only; or whether, in the case where an incremental post is not available to a teacher immediately after the year's qualifying period, his Department will continue to make a similar payment to the teacher in question for a further period of time.

The Deputy may not be aware that the incremental salary rules provide for payment to 1 teacher for every 15 pupils up to 60 and to 1 teacher for every 20 pupils thereafter. That being so, there could be no question of continuing payments to a probationer teacher for whom an incremental post is not available.
