Vol. 196 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ireland's EEC Application.

1.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach if he will state the problems referred to in the statement issued in Brussels on 11th May, 1962 as having been raised by him concerning Ireland's application to join the EEC.

2.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Taoiseach what were the supplementary questions referred to in the statement issued in Brussels on 11th May, 1962 as having been posed by representatives of the member States of the EEC and by representatives of the Commission.

With your permission, Sir, I propose to take Questions Nos. 1 and 2 together.

As I have already indicated in reply to previous questions, I do not propose, at this stage, to add anything to the statement issued by the Secretariat of the Council of the European Economic Community at the conclusion of the meeting on the 11th May.

Would the Taoiseach, who knows more than any of us about the negotiations taking place in regard to the Common Market, not have a certain amount of sympathy with members of the Dáil and with the country and give us in the form of a White Paper the information which is now at his disposal? There must be information supplementary to what he had before and could he not issue a White Paper and let us have a debate in the House? Most people are not as much informed as the Taoiseach on this subject.

I have already informed the House that I propose to issue a further paper at the end of this month.
