Several systems of prefabrication have been examined by my Department in recent years and, where appropriate, approval in principle has been indicated to the methods of construction proposed.
Insofar as the provision of prefabricated dwellings by local authorities may arise, however, the initiation of proposals is a function of the housing authorities concerned. I am prepared to consider any such proposal on its merits. I am at the same time prepared to consider applications for the payment of grants under the Housing Acts towards the provision of private houses involving approved methods of prefabrication.
