Vol. 196 No. 6

Written Answers. - Retired Army Officer.

88.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state with reference to a reply of the 13th June 1962 in relation to the case of a retired officer whether the provisions of Article 117 of the Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces) 1954 were complied with in regard to the said officer upon the reassembly of the Court mentioned in the reply.

The provisions of Rule 117 of the Rules of Procedure (Defence Forces), 1954, were not applicable to the said retired officer at the date of the reassembly of the Court of Inquiry as he was not then a person subject to military law.

89.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state with reference to the case of a retired officer referred to by him as the Unit Accounting Officer the appointments and duties of the said officer during the period 1st October 1959 to 22nd July 1960.

The appointment held by the officer referred to in the question for the period mentioned was that of Administrative Officer, Battalion Headquarters, 20th Infantry Battalion (F.C.A.).

The principal duties of the officer's appointment were to maintain the service records of personnel of the battalion and to administer the Unit's stores.

The officer was, of course, liable to be called upon to perform such other duties as might be required from time to time by his commanding officer and, during the period in question, he was required to perform certain training duties. He also acted as President of an Audit Board to audit the accounts of certain small units during part of the months of Márta and Aibreán, 1960.

90.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state with reference to a reply in the Dáil of 14th June 1962 concerning a retired officer whether any summons, civil bill or other process has been served on him or on any officer in his Department in that connection.

The answer to the Deputy's question is in the negative.
