Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Cottages.

48.

asked the Minister for Local Government the approximate number of applications for council cottages at present listed at Dublin County Council, the estimated minimum number of eligible applicants in each dispensary district of County Dublin, the number of cottages for which site plans have been submitted to the Department by Dublin County Council, and the estimated number of applicants residing in council cottages who could not be rehoused by the County Council without loss of various grants and subsidies payable to local authorities for building council cottages; and whether he will introduce legislation to facilitate the rehousing of sub-tenants of council houses by local authorities without loss of grants and subsidies.

I am informed that there are at present 987 applications for rehousing on the Dublin County Council waiting list. Layout plans for 100 cottages, including plans received on 21st June for 66 dwellings at Stillorgan, are at present under examination in my Department. The housing authority's records do not, I understand, give the figures of eligible applicants for each dispensary district nor have they a firm figure readily available for the number of applicants who are at present residing in council dwellings.

As regards the last part of the question, concerning the rehousing of sub-tenants of council houses, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a similar question by Deputy P.J. Burke on 1st March last.
