Vol. 196 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bunclody (Wexford) Telephone Service.

73.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware of the completely unsatisfactory nature of the telephone service in the Bunclody area, County Wexford, where there are now over seventy subscribers and still only two lines from the Bunclody sub-post office to the exchange in Enniscorthy; and whether he will take immediate steps to improve this service.

Bunclody exchange has five direct circuits connecting it to Enniscorthy. I am aware that considerable delay is arising during busy periods on calls from the Bunclody area to places beyond Enniscorthy. A major trunking scheme for the provision of additional circuits from Enniscorthy to Waterford and Wexford is in course of construction and when this is completed most of the causes of delay on calls from Bunclody will be eliminated.

Will the Minister agree, until such time as this work is carried out, to a reduction in the charges?

I could not agree to that. The main scheme will be completed next Spring. After that, there will be another scheme.

Will there be an improvement from next Spring?

There will.
