Vol. 196 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin City Traffic Directions.

91.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Justice in respect of what junctions and streets in Dublin the Garda Síochána have requested the Dublin Corporation to mark traffic lanes and direction arrows and the dates of all such requests.

As I stated in reply to a similar Question by the Deputy on 15th February last, traffic lane direction arrows are not authorised signs but the Dublin Corporation agreed to provide a few on an experimental basis. I understand that the question of making them authorised signs is at present being considered by the Minister for Local Government.

Lane markings without traffic lane direction arrows are, however, being provided by the Corporation in pursuance of a general request by the Garda Síochána that such markings should be provided at approaches to all important road intersections where there is room for four traffic lanes. No specific junctions have been mentioned by the Garda Síochána in this connection but I understand that the work has already been completed by the Corporation on quite a number of junctions and is still proceeding.
