asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the conditions under which licences will be granted for the importation free of duty of musical instruments (a) to retailers or wholesalers importing for resale to the public and (b) to private individuals.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Musical Instruments.
23.
Licences are at present recommended for the importation, without payment of duty, or at a rate of 10 per cent. ad valorem, depending on the origin of the goods, of musical instruments of a type which cannot be obtained from home manufacturers.
No distinction is made between applications received from wholesalers, retailers and private individuals, except in the case of certain secondhand pianos for reconditioning, for the importation of which licences are recommended only in favour of recognised members of the trade.
