Vol. 196 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rehousing Applications.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government what are the exact functions of a county medical officer of health with regard to the recommendation of suitable applicants for rehousing in local authority housing schemes; and to what extent the county manager is bound to follow the recommendations of the medical officer of health in these matters.

The provisions governing the letting of housing authority dwellings are contained in Part II of the Housing (Management and Letting) Regulations, 1950 and 1953. Under these provisions, the function of the chief medical officer is to furnish a report and recommendation on the applicants. The housing authority is obliged to have regard to the chief medical officer's views in making the lettings but need not follow them if satisfied that there are good grounds for not doing so.
