Vol. 196 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Re-Employment of Briquette Factory Workers.

10.

andMr. T. F. O'Higgins asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to re-employ the workers laid off at the briquette factory at Mount Lucas, Tullamore, Offaly.

The recruitment and employment of workers is the sole responsibility of Bord na Móna. On enquiry I have been informed by Bord na Móna that the factory referred to is Croghan briquette factory, which recently resumed operations after being closed for overhaul, and that the full complement of workers necessary for operations at this time of the year is employed.

Would I be correct in saying that there is available a market for the output of the two briquette factories and that there is no question of closing down either of them?

One was closed for overhaul. It is now open again.

Am I right in believing that there is a market for the output of both factories?

Bord na Móna are hopeful that there will continue to be a market for the products of both briquette factories.
