asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that Clonliffe Harriers Stadium at Santry is for sale; and if he will consider purchasing this property to provide a fully equipped national athletic sports stadium to cater adequately for international athletic competitions and to encourage greater achievements amongst Irish athletes.
With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 67 and 68 together. I understand from press reports that the stadium is for sale but no proposals to purchase the property have been received in my Department from the Dublin Corporation.
I have no statutory powers nor have I the funds at my disposal to purchase property of this kind. In any event it would not be appropriate that I should do so.
