asked the Minister for Agriculture (a) the number of Boards which are administered under the aegis of his Department, (b) the name and functions of each, (c) the total remuneration of each member of each Board, (d) the rate of expenses payable to each member, and (e) the amount of expenses paid to each member during the period from August 1960 to July 1961.

As the answer is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

1. Agricultural Wages Board

Pursuant to the Agricultural Wages Acts, 1936 and 1945 and the Agricultural Workers (Holidays) Acts, 1950 to 1961.

Remuneration payable to the Chairman is £900 per annum. No remuneration is payable to the 11 ordinary members of the Board.

Chairman: For journeys on the business of the Board away from the Board's head-quarters: the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service.

Ordinary Members: For journeys on the business of the Board: the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service.

The total sum paid in the period August, 1960 to July 1961 amounted to £145 13s. 1d.

2. An Bord Bainne

Pursuant to the Dairy Produce Marketing Act, 1961.

Remuneration payable to the part-time Chairman is £350 per annum and to each of the 8 other members £250 per annum

Chairman and Ordinary Members: For journeys on the business of the Board (including attendance at meetings of the Board and any Committees of the Board): the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service.

3. An Bord Gráin

Pursuant to the Agricultural Produce (Cereals) (Amendment) Act, 1958.

Board members do not receive remuneration

Chairman and Ordinary Members: For attendance at meetings of the Board: Subsistence of 20/- per day plus 30/- per night away from home and car expenses at 1/- per mile, or recoupment of actual cost of public transport, where used.

4. Bord na gCon

Pursuant to the Greyhound Industry Act, 1958.

Remuneration payable to the wholetime Chairman is £2,500 per annum and to each of the 6 ordinary members £250 per annum.

Chairman: For journeys on the business of the Board away from the Board's head-quarters: the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service, and actual entertainment expenses incurred by him in connection with the business of the Board.

Ordinary Members: For journeys on the business of the Board (including attendance at meetings of the Board and any committees of the Board): the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service.

5. Cork District Milk Board6. Dublin District Milk Board

Pursuant to Milk (Regulation of Supply and Price) Act, 1936.

Remuneration payable to wholetime Chairman of both these Boards is £2,200 per annum.No remuneration is payable to the 13 other members of the Dublin Board or the 8 other members of the Cork Board.

Chairman: For journeys on the business of the Board away from the Board's head-quarters: the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service.

Ordinary Members: For attendance at meetings of the Board: subsistence of 20/- per day plus 30/- per night away from home, and car expenses at 1/- per mile, or recoupment of actual cost of public transport, where used.

7. An Foras Talúntais

Pursuant to the Agriculture (An Foras Talúntais) Act, 1958.

Remuneration payable to the Chairman is £1,000 per annum. No remuneration is payable to the 12 ordinary members of An Foras.

Not subject to approval of Minister for Agriculture.

8. Pigs and Bacon Commission.

Pursuant to the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1939 and the Pigs and Bacon (Amendment) Act, 1961.

Remuneration payable to the part-time Chairman is £350 per annum and to each of the 6 ordinary members £250 per annum.

Chairman and Ordinary Members: For journeys on the business of the Board: the rates applicable for the time being to the highest grades of the Civil Service.

Note: Except in the case of the Agricultural Wages Board, the Department does not pay the expenses (travelling and subsistence) of these bodies. Payment of such expenses at the appropriate rates is a matter for the bodies concerned.
