asked the Minister for Transport and Power (1) how many new licences for plated lorries have been issued by him over the past three years, (2) to what areas such licences applied, and (3) how many licences have been issued during the past two years for the licensing of buses to carry on a public passenger service, and the routes covered by such services.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licences for Plated Lorries.
Seven new merchandise licences have been issued since 14th November, 1959, to date. Three licences were for the carriage of newspapers; one licence was for the carriage of chilled horse meat in refrigerated containers from Straffan, Co. Kildare, to the Border, and one licence was for haulage on Valentia Island. The two remaining licences were replacements of existing licences; one replaced an existing licence on Achill Island and one, which issued following a change of ownership of the transport firm concerned, replaced the existing licence for the carriage of horse meat.
Particulars of all merchandise licences issued under the Road Transport Acts including the areas of their operation are contained in the Statutory Register of Merchandise Licences prescribed by Section 29 of the Road Transport Act, 1933, which is open to inspection in my Department at all reasonable times.
Seventy-one passenger licences authorising the operation of passenger road services have been issued since 14th November, 1960, to date. The routes of the services authorised by these licences are shown in a tabular statement which I propose, with the permission of An Ceann Comhairle, to have circulated with the Official Report.
Following is the statement:
