There were 647 children committed to industrial schools during the year 1st July, 1961, to 30th June, 1962, of which 509 were committed on the grounds of destitution and/or lack of proper guardianship. Committals to reformatories in the same period numbered 103, of which 101 were youthful offenders and the remaining two had gone beyond the control of their parents.
