In January, 1962, the Forestry Division of my Department acquired an area of 42 acres at Shanbally for development as a mechanised nursery. Bringing the nursery into full production will be a gradual process. Some preliminary work has already been undertaken on the site in preparation for an extensive programme of lining-out of seedlings which is expected to commence next February. In the meanwhile other work such as fencing and the laying down of roads will be attended to.
