asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that considerable difficulty is experienced in exchanging Irish currency in certain countries abroad ; and if he will investigate the general position with regard to the facilities for exchanging Irish currency abroad with a view to improving them.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exchange of Irish Currency Abroad.

In general, as Irish currency is legal tender in this country only, travellers from Ireland provide themselves with their requirements of foreign currency, travellers cheques, or local bank credit abroad before leaving this country. In exceptional cases where travellers have required to change Irish notes in foreign countries, it has usually been possible for them to do so although, of course, foreign banks and travel agents are under no legal obligation in the matter. I do not think any investigation is necessary.
