asked the Minister for Justice whether, in view of the fact that members of the Gardaí are not granted a transfer at their own request unless there is a vacancy at the station for which the Garda applies, which needs to be filled in the interests of the service, he will alter the present system whereby Gardaí who are transferred at their own request are not entitled to the cost of the removal of their furniture or effects.

Where it is in the interests of the administration of the Garda Síochána that a vacancy at any station be filled by the transfer of a member from another station, the transfer expenses incurred by such a member are paid from public funds, whether or not that member has applied for the transfer.
