Vol. 198 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emission of Fumes by Machinery.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether there are at present in operation any regulations governing the amount of smoke and fumes emitted by road-repairing and general building machinery; if so, what these regulations are; and what steps are taken to enforce compliance with them.

There are no regulations controlling specifically the amount of smoke and fumes emitted by road-repairing and general building machinery. Where such machinery comes within the scope of the Mechanically Propelled Vehicles (Construction, Equipment and Use) Order, 1934, it is, if used on public roads, subject to the provisions of that order relating to the emission of smoke, visible vapour or other substances. The enforcing authority is the Garda Síochána.
