Vol. 198 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Vesting of Sporting Rights.

70.

asked the Minister for Lands if applications have been received by his Department from landholders in Wicklow for the vesting in them of the sporting rights in their land; and, if so, what steps he is taking in the matter.

Under Section 34, Land Act, 1933, and Section 39, Land Act, 1936, any tenant-purchaser, who does not own the shooting rights on his land and is prepared to purchase such rights, may apply to the Land Commission to have the reserved shooting rights vested in them for resale to him, at a price to be agreed on or fixed.

Fifty-seven applications from Wicklow landowners have been received by the Land Commission and are at present under investigation.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary state how long the investigation is likely to take? My information is that a number of these applications have been with the Department for a considerable time.

Not a considerable time.

A matter of months anyway.

That is all. The applications are in for only some months.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary consider a matter of months quite usual for the Land Commission?

I will not make any comment on that. It is a matter of public knowledge.
