asked the Minister for Education the names of the countries in Western Europe where the compulsory school-leaving age is the same as, or lower than, it is here.

According to the information officially supplied to the Conference of Ministers of Education, which was held in Rome last October, the countries in Western Europe where the compulsory school-leaving age is the same as, or lower than it is here, are Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, Spain, Turkey, West Germany (6 of the 11 Lander) and Norway (some of the Communes). In Ireland, Norway and Sweden, where the upper age limit for compulsory school attendance is 15 years, the lower limit begins at 7 as against 6 here.
