Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC: Grouping of Industries.

18.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has any scheme for encouraging allied forms of industry within the country to group for organisational purposes, so that they may more efficiently export their wares, should Ireland become a member of the EEC.

The Second Interim Report of the Committee on Industrial Organisation, which was published in August 1962, set out a comprehensive survey of the ways in which exports might be promoted by co-operative action. Government encouragement of exports is effected largely through the medium of Córas Tráchtála and the resources of that organisation are being specially strengthened to enable it to intensify its promotional work in general and in particular to foster the types of scheme referred to in the Committee's Report. A principal function of the Adaptation Councils, which are now being set up in a number of industries following on surveys by the Committee on Industrial Organisation, will be the promotion within each industry of joint export arrangements.
