Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building Repair Grant.

39.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the repair grant paid in respect of premises (address supplied) (a) the work and materials covered by such grant, (b) the steps taken to ensure that, before payment of the grant, the appropriate repairs had been properly carried out, (c) whether a complaint has been received about the workmanship involved, and (d) if so, what action has been, or will be, taken thereon.

The works consisted of the replastering of external walls; repointing and recapping chimney; provision of new wash-hand basin, hall door, back door, lead flashing, ventilation to two rooms and minor repair works.

On receipt of certificate from the applicant that the works had been satisfactorily completed, an engineering inspector from my Department inspected the house and certified that the works were completed. Accordingly, a grant of £29 was paid to the applicant on 8th February, 1962.

A complaint was received in September, 1962, on behalf of the applicant, from the Drimnagh Tenant Purchasers' Association about the workmanship involved.

The Association was informed that the grant in this case was paid on the basis of certificates of satisfactory completion of the works given by an Inspector of the Department and by the applicant.
