Vol. 199 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Portlaw (Waterford) Holdings.

52.

asked the Minister for Lands the number and names of the holdings, in the vicinity of Portlaw, County Waterford, which are now in the possession of the Land Commission for division; and when these holdings will be divided.

The Land Commission have two estates on hands in the vicinity of Portlaw, viz. the Halpin estate of 130 acres at Darrigal and the Hunt estate of 220 acres at Clashganny and Coolroe. It is not yet possible to indicate when these estates will be allotted but there will be no avoidable delay.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Land Commission have been in possession of these two estates for many years and that they are letting them in conacre and for grazing?

A scheme is now being prepared and should be put into effect very shortly.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary tell the Minister for Lands that the Minister has shown very bad example to the people in the West, whose lands he is threatening to take over by letting that land in conacre and grazing?

Sometimes it is necessary to do that in order to formulate a proper scheme.
