The precise information for which the Deputy asks is not available as, under the system of accounting for income tax under PAYE, the amounts collected are not segregated by reference to income groups. PAYE came into operation on 6th October, 1960. The tax collected under PAYE for 1960-61 and 1961-62 amounted to £3,387,000 and £9,064,000 respectively.
