Vol. 199 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mobile Dental Clinic.

1.

andMr. Kyne asked the Minister for Health whether, in view of the fact that (a) children from outlying housing areas of Dublin must come in to Cornmarket for dental treatment where total anaesthesia by gas is required, and (b) such methods of anaesthesia often induce sickness in the child and make the travelling of a considerable distance home a hardship, he will investigate the possibility of establishing a mobile dental clinic, on the lines of the mobile X-ray or blood transfusion clinics, to carry out this type of dental treatment in different parts of the Dublin area.

The provision of a mobile dental clinic for the Dublin area would be a matter for the Dublin Health Authority in the first instance and I have received no proposal in the matter from the authority. I am advised, however, that it would not be feasible to provide dental treatment under general anaesthetic in a mobile dental clinic.

I understand that under the Dental Services provided by the Health Authority while some children from outlying housing areas in Dublin requiring dental treatment under general anaesthetic have to attend the Cornmarket Clinic, the Health Authority also have arrangements for the provision of such treatment at the Crumlin Health Centre, the Incorporated Dental Hospital, the Children's Hospital, Temple Street, and St. Michael's Hospital, Dún Laoghaire.
