Vol. 199 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Kerry Uneconomic Holders.

40.

asked the Minister for Lands how many uneconomic holders are on the waiting list for the division and exchanges of land in each of the following areas of South Kerry: Kenmare, Kilgarvin, Bonane, Sneem, Waterville, Killorglin, Cahirciveen and Killarney; and if he will state the date of the longest outstanding application for each area.

It is not the practice to keep a comprehensive numerical record of applications for land: indeed, such a record might not, of itself, accurately reflect the number of really qualified claimants inasmuch as all eligible persons—irrespective of whether they have lodged a formal application or not—are automatically considered by the Land Commission for allotments.

The detailed information requested is, therefore, not readily available. Perhaps, however, it might meet the Deputy's requirements to know that some 253 applications for migration were received from landowners in Co. Kerry as a whole during the past five years; while in the same period 157 uneconomic holdings in the county were enlarged and 25 tenants were migrated from the county by the Land Commission.
