Vol. 199 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Athy (Kildare) Lands.

30.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have taken steps to acquire the Owens lands at Ballyroe and Grangemellon, Athy, County Kildare; and how the matter now stands.

The Land Commission have decided to institute proceedings for acquisition of 124 acres of these lands. The owners have been notified accordingly and the relevant statutory notices will be published at an early date.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say whether the Land Commission intend to acquire all the lands which were purchased at the recent auction, or only portion of them?

In that respect, lots 2, 4 and 5, comprising 124 acres, are included in the proposed acquisition scheme.

Does that mean that some persons who purchased lands at the recent auction will not have these lands recovered from them for the purpose of satisfying the local demand?

The present scheme envisages only portion of the lands— lots 2, 4 and 5.

Am I to understand that some lands purchased at the recent auction will not be the subject of acquisition proceedings by the Land Commission?

There were two lots, 1 and 3, of inferior land; these are not regarded as suitable for the scheme envisaged by the Land Commission at the moment.

Is the only reason for their non-acquisition the inferiority of the land?

The lands are not suitable.

The Parliamentary Secretary would be very glad to have them himself.
