Vol. 199 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Assistance for Fashion Industry.

26.

Mr. Ryan

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he proposes to accede to the request of the Irish fashion industry to provide State financial assistance for fashion shows and thereby maintain and expand the Irish fashion industry.

I have not received any request from the Irish fashion industry for financial assistance. I understand, however, that Córas Tráchtála co-operates with the industry in various ways and has provided financial assistance for the purpose of export development. I am informed that Córas Tráchtála have under consideration at present the possibility of introducing further arrangements intended to develop the export potentialities of the industry and a meeting will be held with the fashion designers in the near future to discuss the proposals.
