Vol. 199 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment at Dublin Dockyards.

22.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if it is a fact that Ringsend Dockyard Limited, Dublin, are about to pay off some of their employees; if so, how many are involved; and if he can take any steps to prevent such a decision.

23.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the maximum total number of men employed at peak employment (i) at Ringsend dockyards, Dublin since January 1959, and (ii) Liffey dockyards since January 1958.

24.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what proposals, if any, he has for ensuring that the Liffey and Ringsend dockyards, Dublin will resume work at full capacity without delay.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 22, 23 and 24 together.

No approach has been made to me about their employment position by the two companies mentioned in the Questions. If they are, in fact, experiencing difficulties, I would be prepared to examine carefully and sympathetically any practical suggestions they may make as to how I could assist in finding a solution of their problems.
