Vol. 200 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballyfermot (Dublin) Recreation Ground.

51.

andMr. Ryan asked Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need to provide pavilion accommodation on the recreation ground known as the Lawn in Ballyfermot, Dublin; if he is aware of the plans submitted by Dublin Corporation to provide such an amenity; and, if not, if he will consider taking steps to ensure provision of such facilities, particularly toilets and dressing rooms for juvenile football teams already organised and participating in league competitions.

The recreation ground at the Lawn, Ballyfermot, is owned by Dublin Corporation and the provision of facilities there is a matter for that body. I understand that the recreation ground forms part of a larger area set aside by the Corporation as a site for a park and that the development of the park, which will include the erection of a pavilion and toilets, will be included in a programme for the development of park sites at present being formulated by the Corporation.

Could the Minister say when this is likely to take place? I do not know if the Minister is aware that this club caters for 500 children under 14 years and they have no pavilion accommodation whatever.

The trouble is that I am aware of the matters which the Deputy mentions but, as I said in my reply, it is a matter for the Corporation and not my Department.

If the Minister takes an interest in it, it would hurry them up.

Will the Minister not spur them on? They are not notoriously active.
