Vol. 200 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rates Relief for Householders.

52.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the growing burden of rates on householders, particularly those who are repaying small dwellings acquisition or building society loans; and if, having regard to the fact that business people and firms obtain relief for rates paid against their income tax assessment and that this concession is not available to householders, he will introduce legislation to enable local authorities to give differential rates relief to occupiers of private residences.

The introduction of amending legislation to give further rates remission on the lines suggested by the Deputy is not contemplated.
