Vol. 200 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Forestry Nursery.

60.

asked the Minister for Lands why a nursery in the Fíor-Ghaeltacht at Banganboy, Glenties, County Donegal, employing five men permanently and ten part-time, has been closed down and transferred elsewhere; and if he will reconsider re-opening this nursery.

The nursery at Banganboy which is 3¼ acres in area is being closed down in the final stages of a general reorganisation involving the replacement of small uneconomic nurseries by large scale units. Work at Banganboy was seasonal but equated in terms of whole time employment to less than five men. Work will not cease entirely at the nursery until the end of March, 1963.

As a result of the nursery reorganisation the total area devoted to nursery production in County Donegal forests is being increased from 43 to 84 acres and further expansion is in prospect.
